We have been implementing the principles of Gino Wickman’s book, Traction, and his EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System) model. Wickman talks about the importance of FOCUS, which is directing and facilitating attention to the one thing that is most important. Focus can be applied to an organization as a whole – or on the departmental or individual level within your practice.
Our current focus is the number “5.” This number applies to billing units per hour, and if achieved, will be a game-changer for us on each and every level – individual, departmental, and organizational as a whole. Currently, we average about 4 units per hour – so this incremental increase will result in a 20% increase in overall revenue for our practice. This focus is objective, clear, understandable and achievable by our team.
Here are our guidelines for the focus of “5”:
- The schedule must be full, no gaps and minimal cancellations
- The primnary role of technicians is to facilitate the smooth transitioning of patients for clinicians
- Consistent marketing to keep patients engaged
- Ongoing training and tips for compliant and optimal billing
- Avoidance of over-hiring
Our “Focus on 5” acts as a filter for things that would pull us away from our goal. In all our meetings, leadership and team, we are constantly focused on 5!
